Hope ya'll enjoy this slide show from a few spots around Seattle this week.

Some of the macro shots are cropped to magnify the image at least 4-5 times....in other words, the image width would be as small as about 8 mm....

I find it interesting that the water drops only bead and stay on the underside of leaves. All the leaves that had fallen front side up were bone dry. I assume only the topsides absorb water. Not the first time I've noticed this.

Images shot with a Canon 5D Mk ll, full frame 21 mp sensor, and a 17-40 f/4 wide angle lens. The macro shots are with a Canon 100mm IS macro. The image stabilization allows for some danged slow shutter speeds. some at 1/40th second. Amazingly sharp lens!

Roger: You've got a real gift man. My wife and I just got done relishing all those shots. We cldn't believe the one of the river! I feel like I don't deserve to live here. We're in Issaquah, btw. Thanks a ton for posting all that!

That's a tiny stream that bisects a green belt adjoining 11 homes. Next to Puget Sound in north Edmonds. I do a lot of work for them. It was a Nordstrom retreat. They planted 4 sequoia at what is now the gated entrance, now 5-7 feet at ground level and pushing 130-140'. A long row of the largest cryptomeria I've seen-up to 100 footers. There's a couple Jeffrey pine that might be 130-140' and a few grand fir up to 150. One grows right out of that stream bank, and grew tall and straight in search of light...the slopes are 30-40 degrees steep. It's barely 36-40" dbh, but has to be 150'

You'll recognize this from our last cold snap:

Yo Craig. this was taken that same day last November. Color but not fall! Reckon I can go off topic, it's my thread! This icicle on a fir was part of the rime ice (from freezing spray) that had encased everything at the outlook of Snoqualmie Falls.

WOKE UP, IT WAS a FROSTY MORN

The first few shots weren't tack sharp, but I like this one.
It's the very tip of a laceleaf maple leaf, encased in a frozen waterdroplet...prolly 3-4 mm wide.

Then, I broke out the tripod, and put a focusing rail on it, and the camera with 1-1 macro Canon 100 mm lens. A ten second delay and mirror lockup allowed for fairly sharp images. I don't know if my mistake of leaving the lens' internal stabilization on affected the sharpness--it's supposed to be switched off for tripod work...
