That was the Paradise Fire. It started east of the town of Paradise, in the mountains, caused by faulty power lines and wind. It is reported to have moved towards town at the rate of 80 football fields per minute! It reached town so quickly that all emergency response was down, leaving people on their own to survive or not. People were trying to escape with nothing more than the clothes on their backs on roads that were literally on fire and smoke so thick they couldn't see. Small, rural roads that couldn't handle the volume of cars trying to escape, and many didn't make it. And escape to where? The majority of people wound up in the parking lots of Walmarts and Home Depots in tents for weeks until help could reach them. About 5 days later Trump shows up and makes his stupid Raking speech to the poor lost souls who were deeply traumatized and suffering. The first words out of his mouth were..."Today I am in the town of PLEASANT". Yes, he didn't even know the name of the burned out town he was in! It was an incredible insult to the people of Paradise that were seeking immediate federal aid to get them food and water and out of tents. Then he went on to ramble about raking. No words of encouragement to the owners of 11,000 homes that were lost, or to the families of the 85 lives lost. So much for immediate federal aid.
