It was in the 80's yesterday but not humid. I just about roasted to death. I can't take the heat. I think I'll try to stay in the garage as much as possible this summer. I have fans and no direct sun.
When I worked for the tree moving company we went to a job one day with a one ton truck loaded up with 1/2" ply. I think only about a 1/4 of it survived the day. Wet 3/4 was the worst. They switched to plastic mats at some point. We matted a 90" spade across a golf course twice. Had a lot of...
This is the only nice board pic I have loaded. Well, it's going to be a nice board. I cut a ton of wide clear pine this spring. I have some 18"x16' absolutely clear boards in my stack out back.:/:
CSV, I think that is a good plan. There are a lot of good mills out there, but I am extremely...
There are a bunch of people over on the Forestry Forum that have the Woodland Mill. They seem to be happy with them. A decent mill for the price, it seems. I think having a bunch of pine boards stickered in the backyard is like money in the bank.
Would there be a market for rough sawn lumber in your area? I see a lot of the trees you take down seem to have nice logs in them. I would imagine ponderosa pine would make some good lumber. What do you do with them now, firewood?
Sapwood is white and heartwood is dark in walnut. As layers of sapwood are added, the inner layers turn dark.
I quoted High Scale's post, but it didn't include bstewarts. That's messed up.:|:
Will any of the logs be salvaged from that tree, or do you have an overabundance of beech? We have American beech here, but it gets some sort of scale, and doesn't seem to be too valuable for lumber.
I've never understood pruning a tree after transplanting it. You've compromised the roots, so you've lost storage of nutrients, as well as the ability to absorb more. Now you're going to cut off branches, and the resulting leaves, reducing the opportunity for photosynthesis.
