A good bit of my stuff has come up missing while I was away:/: So I have been looking to replace the knife I had for more than 20 yrs:X
Been looking at the Benchmade Barrage. Not a switch blade like my other, but has assisted opening.
Cant find anything like the one I had but this is close. I would like a flat ground blade. Every thing seems to be a sharpened pry bar now days.

Any one have this knife?

The Amazon seems like the better buy there Pete, the 154cm blade is much better!

Look at the Benchmade AFO Jeff, I still want one of them myself, I've also had good luck with the Kershaw Ken Onion "assisted" opening knifes, durables and hold a decent edge and reasonabl priced without the legal ramifications in this state.

What makes a crappy edged knife a good knife?

I don't have that model, Jeff. I am a fan of the Axis locking system (556S and 2000SBK).

Andy the AFOs, as best I can tell are all auto openers. They do have what appears to be a flat ground blade. Or close to it any way.
I would order one & take my chances but I don't believe they will ship, a by definition, switch blade to a person in Ks.

Big knife show coming up in Tokyo next month, and hoping to attend...maybe purchase something. The show announcement card shows a Kershaw knife.
No doubt a too general question, but what is the price range of good knives?

This place is the hometown of fine blades, I wouldn't bring something to show here unless it was top notch.

I have been carrying a kershaw asisted opener fot a few years now and really like it. Used to carry a benchmade ascent but I keep losing knifes, nice being able to just run to the walmart and pick one up

If I'm not mistaken it's not illeagal to own a switch blade but it's illeagal to carry one .

Fact is I have a very well made one I picked up Spain while I was in The navy .Genuine Toledo steel blade, bone handle, brass lined .Holds an edge like a razor .

That one is just a novelty and the only thing I've ever used it for is a letter opener .

I've got an old rosewood handle 4 inch Buck and a 4 inch Schrade uncle Henry lock blade and both will hold an edge you can shave with although I would not care to try to . It seems I don't get too close to any type of shaving device as a matter of fact .

I have a Schrade Uncle Henry that was a gift over 10 years ago. Nice knife but I don't think I've used it 3 times. I have a small cheapo 2" pocket knife that was given to me 2 years ago and it's been used almost daily. It is in my pocket all the time.

I have a couple of schrade oldtimers ,stockman style ,which also hold an edge very well .The carbon steel model much more so that the stainless steel one .

Because of my work I always have one in my pocket . On several occasion though that nearly got me in trouble because of added security concerns in court houses etc .

Along that same thought, there are literally thousands of pocket knives that get confiscated from airports . Would you believe they got sold off in bulk lots on E-Bay . 500 Swiss army knives at a wack, just what everybody needs .

If you can't easily shave the hairs off your arm with a knife, it's not very sharp. That's the test for woodworking blades, if they are ready to be used.

This is the Benchmade that I have...it has been one of the best knives I have had...Gerber was good but I like the type liner-lock this one has better. It takes an edge well and has been very reliable. BM has replaced/repaired it twice now...the lock get FURBAR'd once they sent new knife...I don't remember the repair needed but they did it, no problem, very easy to work with. (mine does have the serrations on about 1/3 of blade...get the serrations, very handy).

RE: Kershaw...I haven't used one personally but I was at a training clinic where we used fixed blade knives against log targets (approx. 8 in. diam., 12 in. high)...I used a $30 K-bar with no problems. The person with a nice fancy Kershaw bent the blade doing thrusts to the log (thrust to log, rotate up and out to p/u log, lower back to base)...it lowered my opinion of Kershaw at that point. Granted, that is a pretty rough use for a knife but it was right at the time. If you don't expect to do any rough work with a Kershaw it should be fine.

Not to long ago in a class I had to take we had to dip our knife & hand into a bucket of cattle blood & then make a series of different slashing cuts & punctures on dead, hanging pigs.

Most of us who had some prior experience with knives showed up with Kabars. The Gunny & Major had warned "If you have never done this exercise
with the knife you have wear a glove!" Two of the nastiest cuts came from SOG Pentagon's. As one user made his thrust i nto a hanging pig, his hand wet from the blood in the bucket slipped past the non existent hilt on his SOG & made a very nasty laceration across the width of his palm....He wasn't following what he was instructed to do regarding the glove.

I would not want to pack one on my person every day. But for the money, there is not a better "I'm going to hell & coming back knife" than a Kabar!

Hope to order my new pocket knife today.
