How'd it go today?

Been feeling like Monday followed me all week. I am back on a job I started like 2 years ago. We got called on 12 dead/dying white fir and HO only wanted them stripped and topped. Felled later. 2 reasons, budgeting, and seeing if more die off. Well, 12 more died. So we went back that same year and did 12 more. Now 24 pins stand. I did take the liberty to make them smaller so they would fit in places. Two had the service line still on them, had to wait for the new pole to go in.
SO here we are.
I went all week dropping these pins in spots this tight.... Zip line next to this one..... Neighbors house within reach, family member, did their trees too. HO was really trying too keep what trees he had left with minimal losses.

Then number 24. I should have just waited till Tomorrow
I have never hit a structure in over 13 years, now this :(
The couple built this place from a kit, by hand, back in the 70s :(
Nipped the friggen hinge. I know better than to work tired and injured, but bills to pay and all that. Just plain bummed.

Damn. It happens to all of us at one time or another, Stephen. Don't know if it's bad enough to be worth using your insurance, possibly so. At least you won't have to shell out a bunch of money now, just a bump in rates for a few years.

Thankfully, they don't go all the way, front to back of the house......
Already placed a call to the insurance. We go back tomorrow and rig the log off after supporting it with 6X6s lashed like legs to the log. Gonna try and lift it first off a neighboring tree. Then proceed to rig it down. No way for a crane to get in ....... Ill tarp the roof tomorrow after we get the log off. Can't see any real damage to the chimney. Shake roof might be an issue though. They are pretty much not allowed anymore. They might make us put a more fire resistant roof on.

Yes, if it went sideways it still would have hit.

Sorry brother, but I'll never believe that with a pull line that would have happened.

Never, in (unless no one pulled) a hundred years. I always have and always will use a pull line when targets are present.

Well frig! Monday has indeed followed us around this week Stephen. This is why we pay for insurance. You do something right 5000 times and I suppose it's bound to happen eventually. . .

Mixed bag of tree work this week. Mostly after hours to escape the day.

I really enjoy working. Doing something I'm passably good at, and seeing it through to the end. I've never been so personally and comprehensively insulted in my life as I've been since taking this job in management. People are at their absolute worst by the time they make it to me. . . This has been a terrible week. :banghead:

CV that really sucks but we all know you are a careful, excellent tree man, sometimes shit happens. No reflection on you. Use that dang insurance.

I've hit one structure and it was a doosey- taking down a large multi leader maple that had a ridiculous number of cables in it, I told myself repeatedly 'check for cables before each cut'. Well I missed one cable:whine: and it swung and flung an 18"x12' log right at the side of the mcmansion the living room wall got torpedoed big time. $12k.

Alright mister. What'd you do with Grendle?? Theres no snow in those pics so there is no way they were posted by G. No way.

But if they were, I would ask him whats up with the gnarly management position?

I'm the GM at the Huron Mountain Club last three years Cory. I get to hear all kinds of terrible things the rich deem necessary. It's six figures and I'm ready to go live in my chip truck. . .

Just been a bad week. The icing on the cake was a "issue" with a leaky toilet. A host of irate emails and personal visits to the point where I was ready to flip the goddamn desk over and show them what an actual problem looks like. . . Suffice it to say I'm not informed of every leaking sink and toilet on the property, nor do I have any desire to be.

ETA: No snow brother. It's finally gone. Ice too.

And Stephen, I'm 100% with Cory. No reflection on you or your epic skill-set. Shit happens. No one got hurt. It's just a couple boards.

Lol!!

First world problems they have!

Kinda my take on it as well Sam. No one got hurt. No one in the house. Thankfull for that.
Thanks B. Might well need those condolences if they make the insurance out of un-obtainium after this. See if Goodman & Cole Tree survives this bit. Small town. Had a good rep.. Hopefully fixing the issue will hold the rep up some.

I recall an old sailing buddy on mine saying something like..." If you ain't never run aground, you ain't never sailed nowhere much."

And my own corollary, a cleaned up paraphrase of one of D.D. Dent's crusty lessons, that I've posted here more than once..."Put you head in the lion's mouth enough times, you will eventually get bitten, usually badly."

Learn from it, and keep on keeping on, my friend.

Ain't nothing.

You'll still be insurable, surely.

Shit happens.

You're safe and home to the family. F the rest.

Keep on killing it!

Commiserations Stephen, these things can replay in your mind for a good while to come.

Nothing anyone can say will change what happened, it?s embarrassing and annoying.

Now you?ve just got to do what?s right, insurance etc. the best you can.

Be thankful it wasn?t filmed and won?t appear on ?tree cutting fails?

Or was it?

Sorry CV! That sucks. Probably sick inside. Hurt stuff dont compare to hurt people though. My buddy Joe has the craziest tree structure mishap story I?ve ever heard. I think itll keep him conservative forever. Crazy torpedo story too Cory.
