What the hell is RSS feed/read

What the flip does it do? Does anyone use an rss feed for anything useful?

I read the wiki an hour ago...it's too long, too detailed. It doesn't tell you how to actually USE rss.

From wiki, first sentence:

"RSS is a family of Web feed formats used to publish frequently updated works – such as blog entries, news headlines, audio, and video – in a standardized format."

Unless you're building the website, you don't exactly "use" RSS.

Lj- I'll go check my pm's right now.

So I found out that because I have a gmail account, I have access to Google Reader, which gathers RSS "feeds" that I subscribe to. As a test I added "best of craigslist" to my list of feeds.

Now- if I could find some "feeds" that were useful, I could just about appreciate this RSS thing...
