Looks like a strong spiral grain, a thing to be observant of, when using a tall hinge.
 
I probably should have made the back cut closer in height to the gut...less fibre to shear.
 
My old master alway made them at exact same level.

No reason to waste gasoline cutting the same wood twice, was his reasoning.

If you had felled as many trees as him, I guess it even might matter a bit.

I would have thought that in this climate of limited, pricey supply of new equipment with lots of emissions stuff on it, a machine like yours would go quickly.
 
4 hours from the ground up to get this canyon live oak to this point. Not a huge tree by any measure, but challenging none the less.
Where ever there is now open between limbs and leaders was filled with dead up to 6 plus dead. Just never pruned save limbs by the drive way. Shading itself out. Interesting canopy though. Lousy drag. Tree is growing out of a hole with culverts and rocks. IMG_6119.JPG IMG_6118.JPG IMG_6117.JPG
