I'm considering a TreeFlex

Well, yesterday I purchased a Treemotion, after trying the Treeflex for over a month, I liked it but something about it wasn't quite right for me and that was the short bridge, after using a Austria Duo for many years and also a Weaver I have got kind of used to a long bridge on a saddle.

Both the TF & the TM have bridges which you can take off and change to any length you desire

Hey Folks,

My first post here in years! Life changes, habitats change, computer usage changes etc., etc.

Anyway, good to see the crew is still kicking and MB is running the house like he should.

Now down to business, I too am thinking about the TreeFlex. The reason I'm drawn to the TF is the fixed center point. I'm on a Master II of vintage status... and have always preferred fixed vs. sliding. However, when I started climbing I said I would not become stagnant, and yet I seem to have done just that. Perhaps the TF would allow me to slowly transition - in the same belt - from fixed to sliding attachment. I've been reading around, and am still a bit wary about the durability of some of the new belts. It is not so much about cost, as a few hundred extra dollars seems okay on such an integral part of my kit, as it is not wanting to go through the process of getting a new belt again (first time since '98 IKES!)

Nick did the fixed center at all play in to your decision, or are you comfortable in your BF and don't have problems with sliders.

Is/can the bridge be made short enough to get in close when working a spar? I use a adjustable cambium saver set-up coming down the spar for back-up, and even though I'm on a distal, I find floating bridges add too much slack to keep me close if I gaff out or heaven forbid loose my flip line.

Next is there a way to set-up suspenders? I've come to hate heavy saws pulling my harness off (maybe that's just the ten year old harness giving up!). What used to be 'cool' has lost it's magic.

Thoughts and comments appreciated, oh and for those that remember me... I'm now on the east coast! Ontario, to Seattle, now Nova Scotia... what a change in tree scenery in the last 4 years!

Thanks

Matt

High Scale, is what you're saying is that you want to sell me your saddle? TF is still back ordered from Baileys!!! :?

Matt, the central TIP was of slight interest to me. I was mostly interested in the differing fit style of the TF. I guess it's just me looking for that holy grail of a harness that is comfortable!

I can put spenders on any harness, I think. It's just a matter of sewing in some webbing loops at the right places.

The bridge can't be made shorter on the fly, but you can swap it out with whatever bridge you like

Maybe the harness will be here next week and I can say more about it then.

Sorry Nick the Treeflex was on loan. The Treemotions bridge attachment points are, or at least seem, at least to me, further apart than the Treeflex.

The metal attachment points that hold the bridge to the harness on the Treeflex can, in my opinion, cause a nasty jolt when positioning yourself sideways... yeah, I know, that's not a serious issue but it was enough of a issue to bother me.:)

I just might have to take you up on that offer. Besides, it is $100 (50 pounds) cheaper if I buy it from the UK.

I did a 20 minute review of the TreeFlex features.

Hi Nick, just checked vid... pretty informative for those looking to get a new harness. I have been climbing in the TF since Nov 2007 and have had no major probs. I like your velco idea as the cinched straps can work loose a bit after time. I used the Petzl caritool on my right side to give an additional loop for slings/strop and even short clipping and 020. Other than that I reckon you have covered most angles:D

cheers
rich.
