Guess how my day went.





Actually I was glad to have him along with the convoy. We were hired to assist with escorting this load for the gas company. First hour was gravy. The last four hours sucked

Field repair on the chipper yesterday...the bolt that connects the bottom of the feed roller bar to the push rod underneath...fell out. Yes it was already slack, and so was I.
We got to the job set up started up and no forward...only reverse.
We first whittled a stick to try and jury rig it, didn't work...then remembered I always carry a set of new knife bolts and nuts...one was JUST the right size, and the combi spanner fit the nut, and I had allen wrenches for the bolt...whew!!!

Note to self...don't postpone maintenance!!!
(and...put the adjustable spanner and small vise grips BACK in my toolbox...)

We were sent to help lift low lines and trim branches out of the way.
It was listed as an air handler in my paperwork.
The last few miles were the worst. It was wider than the road and no maintenance had been done for years. We busted ass to keep it moving. Made it without a scratch.

it was close when we finished. We went back and put new belts on the bandit chipper while the mechanic adjusted the clutch in my truck. After that I went and saw my tax guy and back to the shop to mess with my pickup. The service trailer brake system indicator comes up now. I haven’t been towing a trailer for weeks. I traced wires and found nothing. Pulled connections apart and cleaned them. Still on. Pisses me off. I never had problems when I wired in brake controllers. Now they make them integrated and there is issues.

Rich, I've done that kind of stuff for probably 25 years working with a local house moving company. I get a call from him about once every year or two to help with clearance trimming for a move. When I was younger I even rode on top of the roof of the house and trimmed limbs out of the way as we rolled down the street.

Going well so far...up at 3, laundry & breakfast done, boat load of house cleaning finished, and furnace guys showed at 8 to start installing the new unit.

Install took about 6.5 hours. Nice & toasty again...super quiet too! Just in time for the new cold front.

Poor guy had to run the exhaust & intake through the RR timbers that set on the foundation...ruined two forstner bits even with cooling them in a bucket.

Did you tie into the chimney?

Actually he uses a doubled length of 1" PVC pipe screwed to the roof along the peak to keep the power lines from snagging the shingles. The pipe extends about 10-12' off the front of the house and the end is secured with a rope. I used a loop runner choked on the PVC pipes at the first anchor at the peak of the roof and tied my lifeline into that. I used a short 35' rope so it wasn't dangling off the edge. I could lean out off either side of the roof and cut stuff far enough back to clear everything.

That’s cool Brian. They had the same type pvc setup on the corners of that thing. Worked well for most lines.

Today was a bit rushed trying to finish up a job. My 3 day road project took all week because I kept getting pulled off to do others things. We got it done though. Boss is happy. Everyone made it home safe so I’m happy. Off to the next contract on Monday. Also got a phone call from someone I used to work with wanting to sell me a used for one day protos. $200. I’m probably gonna pick it up Sunday. Mines four years old and I can get get a basically new one for 33% off I might as well.
