How'd it go today?

Sounds like a cable may have hit him in the back and slammed him into a log face first.
Sounds like they will do surgery on his nose and lip today and put a plate on his cracked chin and relocate his jaw. They thought it was broke but xray said different. He is kinda doped up and in and out but cracked a joke to his sisters, kinda makes everyone feel better

Those first few weeks in the rigging are some of the most dangerous times a man will encounter. I'm glad he'll be okay. sounds like he got a good thump.

Damn, I hope he comes out alright.

I gave a cat a little thump this afternoon. Well kind of... No Bivy threw me a cat rescue, and the cat was stuck in a topped walnut under a powerline in a right of way. The tree went up 15' then out on one big limb another 15'. No way to get out to the cat who was all the way at the tips, and the powerline was right over my head.

So, I asked the homeowner if I could just cut the cat down, and that's what I did. I made a wide face cut and back cut just enough to get the limb to creep down till the tips touched the ground, and the cat ran off the end. :D

Tree was in a right-of-way valley, so I figure I just saved Asplundh a little work.

Woo!! Finally finished a flip line I had to splice. It's made out of 16 strand XTC Fire and I seriously thought this one was going to get the best of me. Most of it went smoothly, expect for when I had to bury the cover again(since I don't have a fid long enough to do it all in one bury). My fid kept snagging this or that. This one flip line took my 3 days, because I had to walk away from it for awhile to avoid totally losing it.

I've had some splices like that before...

John, I built my first top bar hive. All I need now is some bees! I will make at least one more hive and probably buy a couple nukes from a local bee guy. Too late in the season for package bees, I think, and probably too late for swarms too, even up here in the mountains.

Hope he makes a full recovery Willie. I had a tree of heaven to take down today and it had a twin across the fence in the neighbor's yard and the neighbor and me made a deal to kill that one also. I had one guy that got hurt playing soccer over the weekend so I was one guy short. I called my neighbor who gets off of his job at noon and he came out for a hour and then his wife came and got him and his 19 yr. old daughter had taken some pills and maybe drank some vodka. So I have one guy left who is in the process of divorcing his white trash wife and she didn't want to watch their kid while he worked. She is calling him every five minutes to see if he is finished yet. I told him we would probably be done early but then the neighbor added on the tree so then we had a long day. I got all the wood down and will go clean up tomorrow. I want to get some bees also Rumination.

Lordy, this should be investigated and learned from. Poor fella. :(
It will be, all serious work accidents are. It's a dangerous business, specially when your green.
They decided not to do the surgery today till the chance of seizures goes down:(

I just got in....I"ve been walking through the woods all evening looking for a new momma cow....never did find her. BUT....as I was walking I found a few nice chunks of honeycomb....sans honey. Just pure white comb with a few ants checking it out. I looked through the trees and couldn't find the source.

I think it's time to put the window units (A/C) in.

Sorry about your young friend, Willie. I hope his healing all goes smoothly and quickly.

Damn Willie, hope your friend makes a full recovery. The bush like alot of aspects of our job residentially is just so unforgiving.

We'll have a tailgate meeting in the morning and discuss your friends accident and discuss how similar dangers could affect us on our jobsite. Only good thing to do from a accident is learn.

Climbed and trimmed two willows today and then did a pretty goodsized cedar hedge dangling off a ladder. I'm beat.

Damn Willie... Sorry to hear that about your friend... We'll keep him in our thoughts here as he goes through this... Let us know what you find out about the incident....

Jumped right back into it today reluctantly... I don't think I wanted to leave the raptor and the trees from the weekend.. I only took one ride and then concentrated on dinner, kids, Katy and friends.. I can climb trees about any day, but I don't get that much good quality time with some really great people I now consider friends....

So cut shat loads of grass today and billed out the work. Playing catch up from being gone but came home to three checks :D
Tree job came in while I was gone... Rob took good care of things while I was gone and got the DR fixed too.... Still tired from lack of sleep... But damn it was worth it the last few days :D

Pruned a big S.Maple and a Spruce today. Bid and did a little Pear also and bid a couple of other jobs. Talked to Skwerlio en route crossing the NV desert-he expects to roll in here tomorrow. I dunno if he will visit for an hour and keep rolling or spend a day or 2.

Woo again!!!! My package of new toys arrived from Wesspur today and seeing as I got out of summer school early, I had to give them a go. I finally ordered the a pulley and a link to set up a floating false crotch to climb off of. And man, climbing off a pulley is awesome!!!! It's so smooth it should be illegal!

Also ordered everything to set up the new Feight Revolver system pioneered by Kevin up in MN. Gave it a go on the ground and there's definitely some fine tuning that goes into this system. I'm hoping to set up a Frog type system this summer to go along with this system, so we'll see how it all turns out.

Other than trying my new toys out, I'm lock stitching and whipping that Fire flip line I completed.

I bid two jobs, and I got a 2400 lb piece of AWESOMENESS in the mail today.

I have to go talk to a homeowner in an hour about a crane job coming up in a week or so. Going to bed early tonight... The rest of the week'll be busy.

Finally getting my head back on tight. I've been pretty wigged out and consumed by a real a-hole of a customer. I let her get inside my head and get the best of me. Time will tell how the situation will pan out but like i said, i am getting back to myself.

Took down my first aspen tree today over a very expensive fence and playground. i dont care for that species. The wood is difficult for me to manipulate with the saw. Either way, I won.

Hey Andrew, did your mini finally arrive!!

I'm off summer school tomorrow since a killer is still on the loose here. That means I'm back in the saddle for a day of work!! Apparently we have 3 jobs set up, and our crew will be split up. Should be a fun day!

Never slayed an Aspen, but I get to slay this big guy early next week. Gotta get the road closure permit, schedule the crane, log, and stump guy tomorrow afternoon.

Flying a Hi-Ranger, I killed a big, beautiful Red Oak. It had a bit of basal rot, and woulda probably been a problem in ten or twenty years.
