How'd it go today?

put a post on a local group to see if anyone needs a part time operator, immediately get a friend request from some equipment salesman who is mutual friends with a local contractor I won't work for anymore, and one of 4 likes is another friend of said contractor, same guy who was begging me to come operate to the point I took a day off my normal job to help him, then the morning I'm supposed to meet him he texts saying "nevermind I got someone else" and when confronted about it he said "oh well, I have some logs you can come split for me to make the money you lost by taking the day off"

and yet he wonders why I told him to never call me again

Shopping for a new tractor seat. Wengers in Pennsylvania had one for $167 plus shipping.

They had a number for the Deere equivalent. Wild ass guesses?

$1100 and change.
we had a tree vs deere X series lawnmower fight last year, any guesses as to what a USED fuel tank cost for a 20 year old mower? $150, new equivalent (updated version, one I smashed was obsolete) was over $500

people around here are getting so cheap about tree work they are literally asking to hire the Amish now instead of insured companies because we cost too much

so yeah, todays job is probably one of the last ones I'm doing, gonna downsize equipment to some cheaper stuff and go to just hauling brush, I've got a guy that will trade his F250 and some cash for my dump truck, I can sell the chipper and be money ahead, not worried about productivity because I'm not busy enough to really matter

if anyone knows what a 2002 250XP with autofeed and a 110hp 4BT cummins is worth, let me know, manual chute, crush cylinder, only leaks are the standard bandit valve seeps, hoses less than 2 years old, tires a year old, needs an anvil and knife bolts but otherwise works other than the hydraulics getting weak when it warms up, replaced the fluid and both direction and crush valves within the last 6 months, I believe the feed motors are going out but not 100% sure, chips best on the tightest hole for the helper springs, I'm thinking 18-20K? tach doesn't work so autofeed is out right now and no clue of the hours but bearings are all good, trailer brakes work but very, very weak

It could be worth hanging on to until storm season next year. Stay debt free on your equipment as much as possible. Nothing like not having to make payments on something, even if it isn't the best.

we don't live in an area with storms, an hour north we'd be covered up in work, and I advertise in that area for storm season but so many door knockers about, illegally, that I've had 2 or 3 real storm jobs in 4 years and none of them were worth a days pay, usually done in an hour or two and head home again

pretty well worked out what I'm going to do, buddy of mine has a mint 1999 F250, 7.3 PSD, 4wd CCLB that he's been dying to trade for my international, as much as I don't want to get rid of that truck since I'm not chipping anymore it doesn't really matter if I keep it or not, plus he's adding almost as much cash as his ford is worth ontop which will let me go buy a motorcycle

dads talking about selling his dodge, which means I need a truck to pull the dump trailer, that F250 already has a gooseneck ball and pulls an identical dump trailer daily, low mileage rust free truck
I can sell my chipper which will pay for a shitty grapple truck if I decide to go that route, for now I plan to keep my trailer and loader and just haul brush, he has a 12X bandit he rents me for almost the same as what it costs to run my own chipper so it just makes sense to use his, plus it has autofeed and he will have a really nice chip truck (my old one) which means any time I have to chip on a crane job or something, he will be set up to come help me or just let me rent the truck from him, so really a win-win

so basically, I lose the headache that I have right now, dad gets his way on his truck, and I get a "normal" daily plus the bike I've been trying to buy for over a year now, been needing something that I can take out of state to see family but also having full size back seats will be really nice since I've been in need of a family vehicle

yeah, not having my own chipper will be a very, very small inconvenience, same for the international, but honestly it'll be less maintenance, less tires, less insurance, less everything and I still get the same number of jobs done in a year so its not a huge deal to me

Backwards is backwards no matter how you flower it up.
You have to show resilience and stay the course.

but its not backwards, I absolutely must get a truck capable of towing my trailer and since I have little to no use for a chip truck and chipper, and need the money more, its very much forwards for me, especially since I don't own a vehicle legally allowed to cross state lines at the moment which means I can't go visit family

Tree work has been slow lately but I am thankful that I have my Avant loader and have pursued other work with it. In the last two weeks I did 2 clearing jobs, last week I demo'd a shed (12'x20' wood frame and stucco) and also the concrete slab it was on.

Yesterday I bid on demoing a house foundation slab and driveway. It's about 2700 square feet total. The driveway, carport and shed slabs are easy but I am concerned about the house foundation. I can rent a walk behind rolling concreter cutter for about $225 per day so I can cut the foundation into 5'x5' chunks that I can pick up with the loader. Going rate for concrete demo is $2-$2.50 per foot but even at $1.75 per foot I can make good money. Dumpsters are $450 each and I can put about 900' into one. I should be able to demo the entire job in a day and a half by myself and clear about $3000.

Not a Scooby what you’re talking about, but sounds good!
