How'd it go today?

Today was a good day.
Its bad enough doing bids on the weekends. I have not been with the family a lot lately. I am the occasional parent and that is not why I started my own business.

hey we all sacrafice a bit,
our lives sound similar in this regard, i hate missing things with the kids and its hard as hell sometimes but i get up and do it every day 5 to 6 days a week,
soon the wife will hopefully be getting us in a brand new home, just gotta few bank details to work out.
hope to back off at some point and spend more time with the family,
i do a time or two a month blow off all responsibility with work and go play with the kids

TODAY MY WIFE WATCHED MY LOCAL COMPETITOR FALL 15 FT FROM A TREE !!! he was out cold for a couple minutes , before his groundie noticed :|:
so sometimes when ya feel down:cry: something funny happens to somebody else:lol:
and then its good to smile at their stupidity and misfortune:D
my life is some how briefly better then:P

We got the bit from the oil pan after removing a total of 36 bolts (26 in the pan, 7 on the skid plate, and 3 on the dust shield). Got the valve lash set, gotta wait till the morning to call my diesel mechanic to make sure it's right before I button it back up.

This is why our WC rates are so high.
Good luck LJ.

Geez, I'd have a hard time laughing about that no matter who it was.

Rained out today and it is now snowing out side. We really need the water though. This should give us 3 more weeks of burn season. After I get enough coffee in me I might go out and service the Ford. Take it over to the car port on the other house. Then I think I will work on some knots and set ups. :D Hope Fed Ex or UPS comes by again today :D

Good deal Carl.

Today I moped. Redesigned daves way the mount on the grapple rake is, I'm liking it's new way. Cheap, easy, quick, will post pics when PC is fixed.

Got home from school to find my box of rope on the front porch. So with no homework tonight, I'll definitely be splicing for awhile!!! Can't wait to try my hand at Tachyon!!!

Went and looked at the big work I mentioned yesterday. Not as big as was described to me. Cutting the woodline 25 feet back from the road. The road gets no sunlight and during the winter the ice wont thaw. I can beat the bid i am up against. I just havent plugged away with a pencil and paper yet to see what i could do it for. It's a job that i wont do in one shot. I'll hit it on weekends and during downtime from my residential work. I'll blend the hard cost of the work in with my regular residential work and when all is said and done it will feel like "found money". A lot of it is EASY and there's a 200 yard stretch of tedious bucket work where the trees reach over the road towards the 3 phase on the other side. I'm gonna fight to take it but would rather just pick at it. All the brush stays, all the wood leaves. Tri-axle log truck can reach all the logs from the pavement. We'll see.

Didn't like the way I did it, B?

Looks like I'll have to call my diesel mechanic to come over and play with it, I'm obviously missing something.

you got to know when to hold em, nd when to fold em...

bailed on a crane job:cry: after the rear bumper reached 8'.....and the cribbing was wiggleing a little ...I said no go. Tree was uprooting and unsafe to climb. So we packed up and I ate the crane time.....but I get to live and nothing got wrecked....

took a couple pics but...shit...I have never bailed on a crane set up..FOCK!

tree threatens a couple of fences(with kids sometimes) Im leaning towards removing fences and dropping the beeyotch:/:

I've seen pics of some of the nastys you've climbed with crazy crane cribbing. Go with your gut and live to climb another day.

Today was good and long, feels good to be back into the routine. Got a emergency job to do tomorrow aft. Gotta try and squeeze it into the schedule. Sight unseen but apparently a bad split ready to go over a house.

Bummer on the crane job No_Bivy. I know crane time can cost a ton, so hopefully you didn't have to pay for a ton of time.

I also just finished my first Blue Moon splice, actually splices. I made a 12' BlueMoon flipline with a full fid bury on the end with the snap. I whip-locked both ends and must say, I'm really pleased with the results. Can't wait to try it out this weekend!!

I do, thanks for reminding me though.8) Should be pretty easy, from what they describe anyways. Good bucket slug access.:D

Bucket slug...
We used to just call them "puddy on a stick". ;)

Went out bidding today, and took care of some business. 2 for 2 on the bids. Work is starting to back up; not a bad problem to have, and I ain't complainin'!

Swung by the Morbark dealer to gawk at a 15" machine.

Lol, I call myself a bucket slug cause when I'm forced to venture out and climb I sometimes amaze myself at how slow I am.

Wow, you guys are slow... I can get to 100 feet in just over a minute.

With a Wraptor!

Sucks about the crane John...

I ended up taking down the biggest white Pine of my career so far this morning. ...forgot how poppy that stuff is...

made a 15" topping cut at ~90ft, and I had to cut from both sides with my 32" bar for the feling cut. I figure the tree was about 38" where I made the felling cut.

Took out a big 70' yellow pine, a couple tall spindly yellow pines, and another white pine today too.

I'm beat....
