How'd it go today?

Went shopping for a new truck today as the lease on my 2019 Rebel ends soon. Found one I liked with a sticker price of $59,000. Okay, that's not too bad. Salesman said, oh, that's not the real price. This one's just been upfitted with a leveling kit, better wheels and tires, and the folding bed cover. Okay, what's the real price? $81,000!!!!!!! :O

Maybe I'll keep my truck.

Up is Out on turning the drum brake adjusters assuming you didn't install them backwards. Not complicated but tedious and lots of ways to mess up if you don't pay attention. I haven't messed with drum brakes in many years!

Did some milling. Had a 48” max width river birch stump that I finally got to. Kept 4 slabs. Has 4 distinct trunks. Hoping it won’t split apart too bad during the drying process. Still need to apply the anchor seal coating.

Spread a load of chips on the north side of the shop where mostly mud grows. After some pleasant days in the 60*F range it’s heading back down to 22*F tonight and supposed to be 38*F and windy with 20 to 30 mph gusts. Broad, open trees for tomorrow’s crane job. Long underwear back out…

The apprentice managed to lose a huge Beech sideways to the face cut today.
Scared the shit out of him.
The saw was still in the cut and he was desperately trying to save it.
We can't get saws, bars or chain right now.

The 500i that I crushed 2 months ago still hasn't been replaced.
They say maybe 17 of may I may get a new one.

He saved the saw and himself, so all is good, but man, oh man, was he in shock afterwards.

He set too little hinge in the upwind side and the wind broke it.
Happens to the best of us, but first time a 130 year old tree decides to go it's own way is scary as hell.
It starts to tilt slowly and you are all: save the saw, save the saw!!!!
Then it turns to fast and it is : save yourself, idiot!

I've been there plenty of times myself and those 5 seconds really seem like a looooong time.
