    Whats blooming?

Lots of redbud here also. I went north for 3 weeks, while I was gone most of my daffodils went into full bloom and finished up. Missed this year's forsythia blooming from beginning to end. All the daylilies are about a foot high (foliage) hosta and iris have a good hold, too. Up in Minnesota...

    TreeHog

I was searching for another thread, about a crazy cow that joined our herd after the farmer (who's land we lease) died and no one could catch her. We've been trying to catch her for three years or so now. Today was THE day! While searching, I saw this thread, thought I should comment that we...

    Hearing loss from tree work?

I've noticed a slight buzz/hummmmm when it's quiet lately. BUT, worse now is that I can't tell the direction sounds are coming from. VERY annoying.

    Just back from Minnesota

I'd like to get that far north again, but I can never get out of the twin cities area. The drive North of Duluth along Superior is beautiful! I hitchhiked from Duluth up to Grand Marais once....many years ago. :)

    The Garden Thread

I have a compost pile where I just throw things, never turn. It will eventually compost, but slower. Better is the sunken garbage cans with red worms: Take a plastic 30 gallon can, drill a bunch of 1" holes in the bottom and up the sides and sink it up to the handles or a bit under where...

    Longest Fall or Swing

She wasn't 'attacking'....just moving me out of the way so she could get to the food. I've seen them try to move calves that way...just kinda flip them out if they're not theirs or are 'in the way'. When you think that a good sized newborn calf can be 100 pounds, a normal sized human really...

    Longest Fall or Swing

How 'bout a 'fall' from the ground up? Do they count? I got thrown into the air by a cow about ten years ago when I would pour feed into a trough by bucket (I use a auger-feeder on a truck now.) I was pouring the grain, the cows pushing in, and then hearing a far off sounding scream. Guess...

What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Hot and humid, they were talking 'heat index' of 109 and higher the past few days. Night before last woke up in the middle of the night and it was still 86 degrees at 4AM. Have a couple rooms in the house air conditioned so I can escape. I 'm hoping the sweat that ended up in the oil based...

Story about ride with Junior McGhee

I'm listening to my mp3 player while fixing our shower stall walls. This story came up, and I think my drywall mud dried a bit cuz I kept smiling and listening to the story. Thought I'd share. Hope it works: Charlie Barnet, "Hitching a Ride With Junior McGhee" and....completely unrelated...

What Did Ya'll Have For Dinner Tonight?

Nathan's hot dogs and brats on the grill, chips, fresh greenbeans steamed quick then sauteed in butter....and...to top it off....a bowl of ice cream.

    One of Burnham's odd jobs

They look like the deer stands here....except they don't have poison ivy covering the trees.

    Birds Galore

I got on that site again last night, and for the past 45 minutes (I should be outside)...I've finally found out what the strange bird sound is that I've tried to figure out since I lived in Minneapolis in the late 70s early 80s. I lived right in the city, and I'd hear it there, usually at...

    Birds Galore

They are special birds to me. When I first moved to this farm and realized how much WORK and how little PROFIT there was involved....it was quite a revelation. I would often wonder why on earth we did it. Then I started seeing these brilliant blue birds...it was like a smack in the...

    Birds Galore

I wake up to Indigo Buntings calling every morning, they look like the painted, except ALL brilliant blue. Very distinctive call. Check out this web site, I played with it for hours last year. Fun to hear the calls. I haven't seen any hummingbirds yet this year.
