What Style Climbing Hooks?

I dont really see the hype in the carbon fibers. Standard alum. Geckos only weigh 4.3 pounds per pair. How much lighter can they be?

First I gotta talk myself into hanging up my good 'ole caddy set-up.

Ha! That's the beauty of my FS climbing program technical advisor role...I can get 'em to compare, share that experience with the rest of the FS certified climber cadre, laying out the pros and cons as I see them, and make them available to students in my workshops to try out. And I either stay with them as my primary gaffs for production work or go back to the Bashlin/caddie set as suits me.

It's a pretty cool gig.

Aluminum bashlin's with the regular (no steel-insert) buckingham wraps.

Tried a pair of the Gecko's (not the CF) two days ago and wow! The cadillac of spur climbing . They had the euro style gaffs which kept slipping out of the bark on me, just wasn't used to the angle. If I ordered a pair, I'd stick with the good old american style.

They are hands down the most comfortable pair of hooks I have ever wron. Including Geckos.

I like the CF, and now the geckos come with two styles of gaffs.

My back ups are the T2s. with velcro pads

CF on the right, T2s on the left...

They come in different fixed shank lengths. The first pair I got had short shanks and the top of the fixed pad area dug into my leg so I gave them to Gerry.
Got a longer pair (I like my spurs as long as possible) and they fit great

mb i have a pair of komets if you want to try them. i never wear them cus im used to kliens they just feel weird to me

When I wear'em with heavy hiking boots they're real comfy.
