US Army Field Band

Good show, eh Stumper.....

Probably some of those people who went to West Point on a musical scholarship.

I think that's the one that my late father-in-law used to rave about. But he gave equal time to raving about how they RUINED them by allowing women in.

Actually, except for the conductors they are all non-coms.... but mostly mastersergeant or above. Almost all menbers of the field band have a Masters degree in music and entered the army after completing their college, auditioning and entering the army as music specialists destined for the band after completing basic.

So do they carry a rifle or a tuba during basic? Would think it hard to be covert with a great big horn on your back.

Standard basic training. The Field Band Tours the US as Ambassadors of the Army and only very occassionally go into combat zones but the Army has multiple bands which include subgroups of all music genres. The smaller bands go into forward positions to entertain and encourage their fellow soldiers. There are 2 full bands on continuos deployment in Iraq.

i used to go with a girl in the band, she was stationed in hawaii, she loved it,
i seen the band and chorus at los alamitos air station ca...was pretty cool

There is a guy in our town that gives guitar and piano lessons who was a career Navy band member. He has his Masters in Music theory. I'm supposed to call him if I'm working in his neighborhood as he says that something he has always wanted to do is to feed brush into a chipper.
