I was over at the AS site and they were talking about tearaway bungie lanyards of your saws. Personally I do not care for the bungie type I like the web dog leash kind. So my question is do they make just the tearaway part a fuse if you will for the non-bungie kind? If not I think it would be a good idea I have seen rope bags get made from ideas on this site so hears another.

This happens enough times that you need to salvage part of it? Breakaways are a one time use thing, FTMP. I may not quite be understanding your queshun... :|:

I think I've seen a tearaway without the bungie but I don't remember who made it. I make my own... too often. They always get cut. I used to not even use a lanyard until I dropped my second 200.

I love the breakaway double ring bungie. It stretches out to arms length and retracts to a compact out of the way lanyard. Notice on my saddle I got the old style KONG biner to hang my saw on. I never liked those plastic Caritools.
You may also wonder why I have double end biners on my one way grab lanyard. One biner's lock is disabled so it can't be opened. Thats just a cheap ClimbRite grab. I most times use this lanyard 2 way with a prussic. On the other side of my saddle I have a 15mm Maxi Flip wire core with a Petzl Macro grab.

It is easy to make your own breakaway part.
just get a small steel ring and cut it through in one side.
That way it'll pull apart under stress.

If this explanation doesn't make sense, I'll post a picture of my big saw lanyard. But it is cold, dark and raining outside, so I don't want to go out right now.

I guess the question should be why don't they make a tearaway for a non-bungee saw lanyard?

I think Buckingham just wanted the break-away saw lanyards to be the best. Most people really like the bungee part (which keeps the length shorter when cutting close to yourself, so the lanyard is less likely to get caught on something). In addition, there aren't very many people out there who really dislike the bungee (probably because it doesn't really cause any problems).

it causes problems for me, with my arm reach it holds me back from making any 1 handed cuts,
sure fine if you work at bartlett
i like the leash kind,
i dont use a leash on any saw till i get up to 372 and bigger

stig great idea on cutting the ring
if i get worried i sometimes undo the snap if i feel theres a chance of it being caught in a saw snatcher
who needs to have that kind of force on the ol hips and knees

Here is a picture.

That is the lanyard I use when I have the 660 aloft, it'll hold up to me dropping the saw, but breaks at about 100 kilos ( someone tested it for me) if I get a bad sawsnatcher.
