gotta get me one of those pneumatic thingies, or a crossbow...limits of bigshot are aggravating.

For an east coaster, how can those big shot limits be a problem?

We shoot 70 meters up with fishing line and a 300 gr. lead sinker.

That is 12 meters above the top of that wonderful Liriodendron.

Which BTW I'd love to climb:)

What an awesome climb! Beautiful weather and great scenery, plus the tree itself was amazing - the bark furrows were as deep as my fingers are long. The ascent kicked my ass (or my arm, to more precise - I needed better adjustment on the top ascender), but hauling a 20 lb wraptor in and out 4 miles each way on top of my 67 lb pack would have been much, much worse.

The pneumatic launcher was the ticket. It is very predictable, and saves having to use fishing line out in the middle of the woods. Will created a graph that shows the height vs psi for the launcher (psi x 1.3 = height). No guessing on how far back you have to pull the bigshot, and the launcher is lighter, smaller, and requires a lot less energy from the shooter.

Hopefully we can get Steve Sillett out there with the laser to do a 3D crown mapping (what we intended to do originally).
