Well, old Mother Nature delivered a big-assed amount of cleanup work to me and M yesterday afternoon late.
Forecast strong winds with gusts above 35mph and some heavy rain arrived, and we lost a large cottonwood in our riparian area about 75 feet north of the house. Good for the house that it blew down due east

.
It's 45"dbh and about 125 feet tall, a double stem develops 50' up or so. Big crowns above that. The root plate is something like 15'x10'. It took out a couple of 10" hemlocks, a 12" cottonwood, broke the tops out of 3 redcedars, etc. A real mess. No equipment access.
I'm hoping to be able to flop the root plate back into its hole...that would save a ton of work. But there are days and days with the chainsaws and manual clearing ahead. The joys of property maintenance

.
I'll get some pics to post when the rain eases up
