How'd it go today?

Out of time-space update:

Pulled two of the four plugs (she has two per cylinder) drizzled in a little Marvel Mystery Oil and let sit. Applied jumper cables.

Results:

Engine turned over easily and smoothly. Appears to have good compression. Spark plugs looked great, as in a little on the rich side.

My two big concerns of the moment are; getting the tank clean enough to remount and refuel, probably need to replace the main fuel line, since it's rock hard. (Probably need to replace all of them!) Second problem would be the Hydraulic Valves that I was so keen on. I know they've bled down, after 16 years of sitting and if they don't fill back up on their own fairly rapidly, I may have a somewhat serious problem on my hands. Gotta get her first problem fixed to facilitate the manifestation of the second problem. In my experience, letting hydraulic valves idle and giving the occasional rev while they warm up, is typically sufficient to get them filled and working properly, so I'm not tooooooo concerned. There was no sign of valve/piston interference while I turned it over, and with the plugs out, the metal on metal sound would have been really obvious.

Confidence is high.

Here's a pic with the only damage to the bike, a few storage dents where things where dropped on her tank. View attachment 147499
Otherwise she's like new. Even the seat is perfect. This bike has 20k miles and is 33 years old.

How are things standing with the bike these days, Kave?

today I got to use a mag drill just long enough to make me want one, drilled through 1/2" plate and truck frame rails for a gooseneck hitch on the 4700 like butter!

yes, I fall under the joint/farm tags here, no CDL needed so long as I stay within the state/150 miles and I never haul anything besides logging equipment, tree tops, logs, bark, pulp and chips

as AvE would say, this hitch is "skookum as frig", and my right ring finger can confirm after smashing it between the hitch and a fork on the wheel loader, theres about 18 passes of 1/8" 7018 on each corner inside and out, ground smooth enough to look decent from a far, everything else got 3 passes including the gusset on the back of the receiver tube, made it to be compatible with the ball from my B&W turnoverball, had to whip something up to tow my gooseneck while I wait on my chipper to sell (yeah, I know I said I'd never do it), F250 deal fell through so I'm gonna have to buy one

I can put the sides back on and screw a piece of steel to the deck to convert it back into a dump truck in maybe 30 minutes if I ever need to haul chips again

now I gotta put a 13 speed in this pig, the 5 speed has such a split from 3rd to 4th that I can't get over 30mph on a hill, even empty I'm usually lugging in 4th or riding the governor in 3rd because it drops out of boost on that shift, really fun with traffic behind you on a 2+ mile long hill, even a 2 speed rear would be good but this transmission is on its way out and my rear end is literally in brand new shape so I don't want to replace it

It’s just one of those belts in an impossible location. Not the hardest repair just blind, like the literal definition of blind repair.
I'm guessing it's bad location made monitoring it hard or impossible therefore it was allowed to run past its normal lifespan and shit the bed at the worst possible time. Which machine?

@Burnham progress on the bike is paused as I research and source a quality carb rebuild and fuel pump. Searching google is like filling a shot glass from Niagra Falls. Lots of $20 Chinese trash, and the actual Honda parts seem to be unobtanium. Maybe I shoulda bought a damned Harley after all...lolz
