How'd it go today?

9:10pm, got a call for a drone stuck in a tree, dude wants it out of the tree like right now, but doesn't wanna pay my minimum, let alone any form of "hey I know its 9PM and you're in bed but I need you right now" fee

gotta love people, was my price way too high? probably, do I think $400 is fair for me to head out and climb a tree when I was already trying to go to bed, with unknown conditions, tree over water on the tail of the dragon? no, I think its much cheaper than I'm willing to deal with that for, hope the guy finds someone else but I doubt he's gonna, got a feeling he's about to call back any minute now

edit, he texted back asking if I can do $100, LOL

Probably not his tree/property...
definitely not, I checked on google maps, its 10ft off the road according to him but we all know that becomes 100 foot when you show up, and it's a total cliff that I would have to rappel down even if just to get the 10 feet to the tree he says its stuck in

At nite? I wouldn't bother for less than a thousand
yeah, he wanted me there like right now... I prefer to work at night so it really doesn't bother me, but still, $400 was him getting off easy for calling a tree guy

shoulda told him to call the local VFD, they haven't used their ladder truck in a while and probably wouldn't mind the excuse to use it, but they too would probably laugh

Yeah, sounds like a never mind to me.
it was hard not to laugh when he said $400 was too much, and I actually did laugh out loud when I got the text offering $100

$400 is my minimum for showing up with a polesaw, no climbing, no clean up, less than an hour job, during daylight business hours.
$1000 sounds fair for a night job. But more than likely I’d pass on the job, sounds like there too many variables that are not in your favor. Sight unseen, possible trespassing….. $100 is just insulting.

It's not a cat, it can wait. And he can pay what is worth.
I won't even go rescue a cat, my insurance won't cover it and the crazy cat ladies are well, crazy, not worth my time IMO

$400 is average here for a <1hr job, then most reputable guys charge around $200-300/hr after that, last few jobs I've done were kinda like emergency mitigation work and I'm charging around $700/hr for that, not quite a tree on the house, but it will be by noon tomorrow sorta jobs, haven't had anyone complain about that price when it saves a $600K house!

not going to name names, but someone messed with my coffee this morning and I'm not happy

unrelated, I just got a call from a buddy of mine that I bid a job for 2 weeks ago, 12" DBH 80-90ft SYP on a hill between a rental cabin and the customers house, root rot and about a 45 degree crook half way up sending the top 40ft over the house by a large margin, it'd be easy if there was another tree to tie into but this is the tallest in the area and everything is so close to it that theres zero room to rig a top, so crane it is

problem, crane has to go in the vacation rental parkinglot, it barely fits, hopefully the vacation people don't mind but I will have to call and see about getting permission, most likely going to have to wait until they close for the season because the way the parkinglot is designed we will be blocking off almost half of the cabins, going to be an absolute nightmare with 2 trucks, 2 trailers and a crane in there, almost want the 70 ton just for the 6 wheel steer but I'm not paying $1500 for 2 hours, the $600 I'm going to pay is bad enough, about time I buy my own crane, one day, one day

The heat has gone away for a few days but the rain moved in. I went out this morning and worked. We got our all day job done by lunch so I decided to go home. I need the light day anyhow. Getting tired of coming home all cramped up and dehydrated even though I drink gallons of water and electrolytes. Heading back out to pick up 50 RR ties for a project at home. If the rain quits I might get the layout done and mark some elevations so I can excavate this weekend.
