I made a small and a large wire fid. The large wire fid is just a piece of #9 wire and looks like crap. The small one however I put a bit more time into.

Its simply a coat hanger wrapped around an aluminum ring. Then I connected a piece of cord to the ring by sewing the crap out of it and whipping it tight. I can slam the cord in my front door with the stopper knot on the other side or clip the ring into something to secure the fid if I am having trouble with the tuck.

The ring also makes a nice handle and prevents the fid from sliding inside the cord. I havent measured it, but it isnt long enough to tuck 3/4" rope but it easily handles 3/8"s and I imagine everything up to 5/8"s. It probly wouldnt work as well on the real thin cords since the coat hanger isnt so thin.

What else have you all made up, anything neat?
