The official "Welcome New Members" thread!

Hi Everyone,
My name is John. Just started climbing trees for fun. Might slay some in future. Would like to try it sometime.

My Gear

Weaver Split Suspension Extra wide back saddle /w butt strap. From wespur I got a basic climbing kit with splitail system. XTC climbing rope. Not sure about the double D rings. All ready thinking of upgrades on lines and saddle. I used to climb telphone poles for cable tv long time ago. I climed on alot of things like roller coasters and power plants. So i thought I give trees a try and learn more about rigging and rope work.

A Giant welcome there JO , Aptos isn't far from where fom Felton (where I all too briefly lived) .... There are some awfully nice old growth Redwoods around !

Hey John! You do know the new guy buys the first round, right? Welcome to the Treehouse.

Jomoco just arrived in the House...Welcome new guy!

Thanks guys,

I like forums where I can talk with guys that actually climb for a living like I did, and still do, though I'm kinda semi-retired now.

Which is a bummer because climbers need to stay busy to stay in shape.

When I climb these days, I feel like an ol wise tree sloth, very slow and deliberate, seemingly unaware that I'm moving in slow motion.

Getting old sucks!

Howdy guys, so who's heard about this fancy new friction saver from buckingham that uses magnets and pullies and stuff?

Suppose to be one for rigging too.

I'm kinda ambiguous about the known safety of oldschool techniques compared to new labor saving gadgets like this.

15 years ago speedlines were considered kinda fancy, and I use the snot out of speedlining nowadays. great for that one branch that is a problem any other way. My dirty little secret is I sometimes use the tail of my climbing line as a speedline for those one or two branch occassions, but don't tell the ISA on me please.

Well heck, you're not so old! San Diego, eh? I pulled liberty there a time or two - even had a couple tattoos inked. Got ripped off in Balboa Park by junkies, go figure.

Make yourself at home!

Thanks MB,

I've taken quite a few australian weeds out of balboa park and the zoo over the years.

I had a choice of two-way radio com with my CO that day or my hardhat, I chose the radio.

Fortunately I now have a radio built into my helmet, and a video camera!
