I've never heard of casting for salmon in the ocean, only done trolling. Is that possible?

Absolutely! I casted for salmon in sweet water and salt; off the beach and offshore

Salmon's are running here right now. A guy I know got one on the hook in the river here, got so excited he fell off the bank about 10' onto rocks. Bruised and battered himself up, but he walked away. Fish got away too.
