Hi, all:

In your opinion and experience, is a break-away lanyard a necessary safety item on a climbing saw? Does ANSI say anything about them?

If so, it looks like you can go on the pricer end of the spectrum:

Buckingham Tear Away Chainsaw Lanyard $22

TreeStuff Chainsaw Lanyard $25 (I might fasten just one of the Fastex buckles not both...)

Teufelberger AntiShock Chainsaw Lanyard $35

But I've also read that you can go with a basic lanyard attached with a keychain/accessory biner, which would fail under load.

What do you recommend?

Personally, on the occasions Where a significant lump has got trapped on my guide bar it has always freed itself. Once on my 288 it bent the guide bar beyond repair.
I always used to use old climbing line. I happen to have a breakaway lanyard that a climber left in my workshop. Otherwise I might still be using old rope.
