You may consider chaining closer to the cut.
Big wedges can be used between the trunk and chain to really tighten the chain. This is helpful with small trees that don't have the girth for a binder to lay well.

Great vid! I love the sound of hinge-wood working and seeing a tree committed to a lay.
But that was cruel and unusual punishment. Good advice passed on by members of the forum.
