Been dropping/bucking lots of Alaska birch this spring. Had a mild leaner yesterday. Not even enough to warrant a bore cut. Nice solid 18" diameter tree, no rot. There are no trees to small to bore cut.
Just make the bore slanted or even vertical.
Works great while climbing, too.

My experience of cutting down trees with a slope shows that the best option is minimal,, cheese ,, and the mandatory presence of a retainer.
