My question is, how does the operator get in/out of the cab? Manual climb, or is there an elevator function I'm not seeing?

If by "Can't see the gifs" you mean it's just a static image, try right clicking, and choosing [play]. That's what I usually have to do, but I aggressively block content, so my machine doesn't operate like most.

The whole cab lifts up and down on the ladder-like rails beside the boom.

Oops, I didn't look right. The cab looks hold at the top of the telescopic boom and a lift makes the travel.
