First Coos Bay cut and dealing with broken limbs

Stig I'll take the Gopro out on Saturday and drop a couple. When I first was shown how to do it I thought I was getting messed with. It works and I have done a few hundred times with no mishaps. Not any scarier than putting in a Coos Bay.

First Coos Bay cut and dealing with broken limbs

Both you fellas know I am not a tech guy. so can't do the Photoshop cool line and arrow things. So let's see.....From the back looking at a clock, the holding wood is right where the pin on the hands are (thickness is gauged by diameter). The bottom of the face is right around 4 o'clock the top...

First Coos Bay cut and dealing with broken limbs

Think holding wood like a Coos Bay, oriented to the head. Your "face" is super steep going sidehill to the head and the "backcut" is real steep as well coming from the top. Seems nuts but works like a charm, keeps you from blowing it up and having to chase the bastard down the slope.

First Coos Bay cut and dealing with broken limbs

I think a sidehill takes the prize for head leaning Alder. Good chance of getting it to swing.

    What do you currently run?

Last modded 260 by Rick Butler. I only get asked to do removals so it sees more time than any other saw in the tree. Falling still with modded 440's and 460's.

Shortest eye to eye hand spliced 16 strand.

You can go as short as 32" for sure. The bury from each end will cross over in the middle, kind of a pain in the ass splice I feel.

The Knot That Makes My brain Hurt

Take the end of you line and pass it thru the loop, then start tying a prusik. You can get a 3-1 wrap or a 4-2 wrap. not really a Swabisch , but functions similar.

    Hang over?

Tucker is right. Play 4-4-2 one day. Your body will fight real hard to keep the sober brain from taking in too much water.

    Hang over?

I used to be all about using Gookinaid/ERG but have found that the Nuun tabs are perfect along with good simple food like nuts, herring, fruit.

    Tree felling vids

Much better analysis. Looks like an old windcrack right where it separated. Again as you said, easy to critique from a video showing one aspect. Fact is, if he bore cut everything, he wouldn't have been anywhere near that tree since he would have been about 2 years behind in his strips.

    Prices on 044, 066

Prices seem high to me for saws that are over 10 years old. If they have a season in the woods on them that is real high price. Fire them up, determine if the fuel lines, impulse lines, boot etc are in good shape and make him a realistic offer.

    Skidders on the Beach ...?...

I know guys out here on the West side that use wheeled skidders to launch and retrieve fishing boats in the surf line.

    Technora.

I wouldn't. Technora is very self abrasive, not comfortable with that at the choke point. Amsteel gets used commonly in High lead and Skyline setups out here now and there is a lot more heat potential in that setting. Why the need for so much strength? The tree is only so strong. Polyester is...
