I've heard them called Bear Traps. If a bear were to rub its back on one, it could dislodge the top.

Wildlife reintroduction in PNW , Grizzly Bear ... really ?

Reminds me of a discussion I had with a guy on the Danish Woodturner's forum about Cyanoacrylate glue. He figured that because it had Cyano in it's name, and cyanide was an ingredient in Cyclone B gas ( Used by ol' Adolph to gas jews, for those ignorant of history) it must be pure poison. I...

I’ve only done small stuff, but I’ve found that it’ll always go sideways (depending on pressure on the broken top) you just have to work out which way it wants to go.

Protocol here is : " Run, Forest, run!!!!" Just get the hell out of Dodge when it goes. When I start clearing an escape path before falling a tree, my apprentices know, some heavy shit is going to come down.

We call that a squirrel bridge. Usually try to fall them over backwards, straight away from the hanger. Bridge is usually pushing the stem in that direction. That, or mash the hanger down with another tree.

what's in a name ? As Treepeoples we all appreciate Latin botanical being quite descriptive in many cases , a friend on Ski Patrol has the name "Captain Cocktail" that's right Captain ... of ALL Cocktails. My point is you don't get names for nothing , the guy from J Geils Band is called "Magic...

Tree Swing - Rope and Anchor Tie

I used to be big on swings growing up. Had a killer one at my treehouse. On the side of a hill. You could go sideways and do a big circle or striaght. I had a 5/4 board with a hole drilled in it and a knot under. The board split and a girl did not hold on. Fortunately not way up in the...

Tree Swing - Rope and Anchor Tie

And here I didn't want to seem a curmudgeon. I could just feel that it was a bad idea. If tubs and Co want a rope swing, they can do it themselves. If they can't figure out how, they're not qualified to use one anyway.

Tree Swing - Rope and Anchor Tie

I have been called in to remove probably close to a dozen over the years, by the State forest. Worst one was over a cliff by the sea, with a 50 foot fall onto boulders. In a scetchy tree, no less. I looked down while I was up there and thought of Darwin. As in: " WHAT THE FUG WHERE THEY...

I refuse to be liable for someone else’s stupidity. A bad day fishing cost less than a good day in court.

    How'd it go today?

Got my girls dropped on me last night, and the boss canceled today. Now I have no idea what to do with today, but it'll be good because I have my babies.
