Have you guys seen the rewards deal Wesspur is doing?

http://www.wesspur.com/rewards.html...tter&utm_campaign=Newsletter&utm_medium=email

It may be the case that I mistaken, but it seems like a deal not worth getting excited over. You spend a $100 and you get a chip worth 100 points.

A 100 points is worth 1 dollar discount on future purchase.

So basically they are announcing a 1% discount....

Am I understanding right?

Yep, it is basically a loyalty program like airmiles or any other loyalty program. You get a 1% kickback toward future purchases in the form of a gift certificate. You also get the collectable poker chips that will quickly add up to make a playable set. There is no cost to the program.

If I saw a sign or got an email that said, ACT NOW!!!! 1% DISCOUNT!!!! HURRY!!!!.....I would do absolutely nothing that I wasn't already going to do.

I guess it is a rewards program in the sense that if you are already a loyal customer and you already do $10,000 of shopping there per year, you are gonna get $100 that you weren't gonna get otherwise. As it is, I only spend maybe a couple few hundred there per year, so I won't accrue enough points to even notice.

REI uses a rewards program that pays 10% back (on full priced items). That's noticeable even if I only buy 1 pair of boots there per year (I buy a lot more than that, though).

Nothing wrong with it. But nothing great about it either...for me.

But the poker chips are cool! 8)

I may never redeem them, but I have a few $1.00 chips from casino's (as souvenir's) and most Harley Davidson dealerships now have them with their info on them. I probably have more of them than anything.

Just a reminder of places I've been.

Another thing I don't get is why are there points? One chip is worth 100 points which is worth $1 off a future purchase.

Why not have one chip be worth $1. Plain and simple.

At first we were going to send out the chips with the orders and let customers have the option of keeping them or turning in for cash off gear, but we switched so folks can keep the chips and still accumulate points for gear. We realize it is a small token of appreciation, but hopefully it ends up positive. Haven't had any complaints yet about it. The point system is being installed currently and should roll out soon. Points will be retroactive back to April 1. We will be doing special edition chips and various promotions throughout the year for reserve chips as well. Should be fun and there are no strings attached for the customer. Folks have the option to opt out if they don't want to participate, of course. Bonus chips at the ISA show in Portland too.

Yeah, there's no reason why anyone would complain about it. It's free money, basically! I don't mean to come across as ungrateful, but it just seems underwhelming.

I don't see that as being a draw. I could be wrong- but if you want to play poker, are you really going to wait 2 years to buy $30,000 worth of equip from wesspur to have a full set of chips? No- you'll just do what I did and pay $7 at wally world for a crummy set of chips that makes you tons of money from your friends!

I guess I just don't get it.

It would be cool if you could somehow use the chips for online gambling. I've got a winning streak coming, I swear. :)

Lots of tree workers are dumb and not analytical enough to do the math. They are probably spending themselves silly to get those points.

Think of it like something similar to a "challenge coin". Military and law enforcement are into trading/collecting other peoples coins.

Some people collect stamps. Others only accumulate dust. :)

I am just happy with the free shipping and excellent customer service... Additional 1% is just icing on the cake. My kids will want the poker chips

I can't quite see why companies that offer free domestic shipping bargains from time to time, won't knock some charges off of international shipping during the same periods. Favoritism?

AA uses poker chips to commemorate specific lengths of sobriety.
Brian I have never seen poker chips. I know groups practice such thing differently across the country.
Here it has been a coin. They change to brass with the first year & after.

If they would just jack up the prices, then they could give big rebates. No free lunch.

I just got another today.

I'll take it.

Any discount is welcome, especially after just finding out today that the county is/ has been imposing some personal property tax. Maybe I'll be small enough to be exempt.

Sure, I would be happy too with a discount on shipping.
Perhaps their international volumes aren't enough to negotiate some promotional prices from the shipping companies like for the ground customers.
I don't think they take all the shipping costs on their own.
Or it isn't enough profitable between the costs involved and the sales growth for this part of their business.
Only guessing...
