Tree ID help?

Yes, bark looks like a white birch (we have several of those in our yard), but the leaves look like magnolia. Maybe it's a birchnolia confusia. I'll be pruning today. Owner wants crown reduced. That may be a challenge to make it still look good.
 
The buds are indicative of it being a magnolia. I'm sure that's what it is. they can do some really cool stuff. Seen a few that we work on where limbs graft to another limb. Real cool stuff. With that said, not sure of the variety of magnolia.

Thanks all. I agree with magnolia, but don't know what variety. Pleasant fragrance and tangly branches. Spent several hours just cleaning up old stub cuts, removing suckers and crossing/rubbing branches. Not a great shape to start with, but owners are happy.

Greenus weenus is the proper way to put it.
I believe you are right.
 
They have those as street trees down the middle of Cesar Chavez street.....along the meridian....must not want people running across the street.
