Hitchbot made it all across Canada, but seeing the American dream didn't work out to well. Some idiot in Philly cut off it's head. :(

My journey starts at the Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) in Salem, Massachusetts.

From there, I hope to complete items from my hitchhiking bucket list with the help of strangers. This includes visiting a number of historic sites like Time Square in New York City; Millennium Park in Illinois; Mount Rushmore in South Dakota; and the Grand Canyon in Arizona.

My final destination is the Exploratorium in San Francisco, California. Only time will tell how long my journey will take me. I cannot wait to make new friends.

Let me know where else I should go in the U.S. using the hashtag “#hitchBOTinUSA”. They should have boobytrapped the robot if you mess with it. Some acid sprays and burns out your eyes. Then the robot gives a big laugh.

I wonder how steering works?

So, did he sink at the end??? I doesn't show..

It is ridable on land that is how he gets going in the h20. The wheel in front sits in a slot and keeps about three inches of tire below the ski. Back tire is completely free and a skid plate ski under the motor so as it maintains some float as its moving. Having a tip over would end the day for sure but I'd love to ride it!

Why is this better than a jet ski/wet bike?

It's not, not by any means. In fact it was a real jet ski that saved his azz when that monster wave tumbled him!

His top speed was only 35 mph, whereas a typical jet ski's capable of 65 mph. Totally tricked out jet skis can top 90.

It was the challenge of making a fantasy of his from the 90's a reality, and actually accomplishing that goal took a team of people helping him. His inspiration came from the classic desert racing documentary Crusty Demons of Dirt, when the riders would cross streams at high speeds n skim across the water top long enough to cross without endoing over their handle bars.

Fantasy or no fantasy, the activity there seems visually incongruent with the environment in which it is being done. Simply put, it looks pointlessly dumb.

Thanks, Jay.

Someone needed to say that, and since I constantly is accused of being pointlessly negative, I refrained.

Also, the leaf licker part of me wants to say that racing down streams and rivers like that, for fun, probably isn't doing the riverine lifeforms any good.

See, pointlessly negative again.

Frigging commie:D

I'm onboard with the naysayers, that looked like a seriously douchey thing to do, no upside to it at all, just dumb.

Allota folks feel that way about us cutting down big beautiful healthy trees like contract killers...
