Sounds like a story I heard from a local Canadian Afghan war vet, who said some Afghan women in a small village thought they were Russians so they would stuff stones inside them selves so they wouldn't get raped.

It is a centuries old woodturning trick that they have updated to metal.

I could only find a video of "chinese balls" but it has been made square as well.
