Redwood ... bigger than average

Here's something we found a couple of days ago. It was a piece of work getting the tape wrapped. We wanted to keep all the plants and roots intact growing up on the trunk. Leaving the stats up to folks' imagination for now. BTW ... this is a single trunk.

That's a tough one to get a tape all the way around level. It's hard to tell in the images the grade of slope where you would base dbh. Certainly not from the crotch of that sucker.

Technicalities aside, it's a beauty!

Chris is setting a 2nd tape wrap in the one photo, about 10 feet higher than the 1st DBH wrap. The low side trunk is about 11 feet lower than the high side meeting earth. So the ground on low side is like 16 feet below Chris's feet in the one image.

Gorilla duct tape would work to hold the tape.

There's plenty more titans out there ... from a few days ago. 19 ft. diameter about 10 ft. above ground level. Slow taper.

Here's a downhill view of the first tree I posted in the OP. It's an awesome looking redwoods. Slightly elliptical. The average diameter is about 25 feet @ DBH ...
