Great pictures.
i miss Pete… too early.

I started laughing yesterday out of the blue when I remembered Jonny calling Greg, Baborio for ever…. Baborio!!!
We had a blast until it wasn’t anymore…. And yes Baptista was the weirdest mofo I’ve come across in a long while,

Popping this back to the top. Yep, we have another spot opening up. Looking for a journey level climber to backfill a Tree Worker II position. Official announcement will go out in the next couple weeks but posting this now to widen the pool. I'll post it on ISA and WCISA, as well as some other locations. @Bodean hit me up when you're back in October, so we can connect before I leave for New Zealand on the 17th.

Not sure how I missed those GG bridge pics! I'm guessing that wasn't a covert climb given the large crowd and daylight? My buddy and I went up that tower in the middle of night in '78 :dude:

Famous for saying 3 generation tree cutter,
We would reply w you can be shit for 3 generations.

He’s Irish Polish from Norwich Conn. Bills fan!
You know the kind. Haha.

We almost fought, I told him I was gonna break his knees.
They sent me home on a sick day. Haha.

Both vids show average-at-best skills, imo. I guess we gotta determine what is average. First vid he's slow and not confident. Second vid looks borderline dangerous.

The pony tail is annoying, did it ever almost pull him into the chipper?

But idk, I never met the man

He's the guy being replaced ;)
You'd be proud. I've finally turned this dept into a place with upward mobility. We now have a Tree Worker I apprentice position and the ability for the Tree Worker II (118K - 132K per year) to move into a Tree Worker III (132K - 160K per year) position. Of course, it's tied to certifications and experience, but it provides the opportunity for moving up into another pay band. No other place on earth you can make 160K/year doing tree work. All the equipment you can dream up, a budget that supports professional development, and projects that encompass all aspects of tree work (reforestation, pruning, removals, cabling/bracing, art projects, milling, etc) without a production drive. That doesn't mean we aren't efficient or effective, just not driven by production. A dream job, imho, working in one of the most beautiful places in the country, if not the world, and stewarding a synthetic forest into the future.

It sounds like a dream job, except it is in San Francisco. Homeless druggies crapping on the streets, breaking into your car, stealing everything that isn't strapped down. And cost of living is the highest in the country thanks to failed progressive policies. Nobody pays more taxes than California residents.

Yeah, California taxes are high—we subsidize most of the country. You're welcome.

Of course, these days any consideration of the benefits of Federal employment must be tempered with the reality of how precarious the current political climate makes a job like this look.

The Presidio Trust is a wholly owned federal entity. We do not take appropriations like NPS, so we are not furloughed or subject to any administrations bs. In short, we make our own money through residential and commercial leases, so we have nothing to worry about.

I think you are whistling in the dark, my friend.

I see that the employees are earning federal benefits, and partake in the federal retirement savings plan...to do so, they must be federal employees and as such, are within reach of the Trump administration. It is a National Park, administered at least in part by the Dept. of Interior. The Presidio Trust may perhaps be safe from interference, but not the rank and file, I fear.

Just an observation, no slam from me. It looks like a great job, for true.

I am sorry you persist in perceiving anything related to Trump as evil. But to be fair, I also consider anything related to Biden or Pelosi or Adam Schiff to be evil. IMO Trump has much better intentions for ALL US citizens than any of the other 3 mentioned. I think he has proven that by 1. Working for free without accepting a salary, 2. Prioritizing the rights of ALL US citizens, and 3. Doing more to reduce fraud, waste and debt than the last 5 Presidents combined.

I only mention the Trump administration because of the current issues federal employees are experiencing and how Presidio employees might want to be clear-eyed about that situation, Brian. I cannot see where I said anything to make you think I am calling him evil.

Any administration on either side of the aisle could impact Presidio employees in the same way. It was only my point that they are most probably not nearly as insulated on the individual level as some might think.

If that were the case, we’d be furloughed like NPS during a shutdown — but we’re not. In fact, the Presidio Trust continues operating and even assists NPS when they’re “without appropriations.” This happens every time the government shuts down, regardless of who’s in office.
While Congress could, in theory, amend the Trust Act and dissolve the organization, the reality is that we don’t cost the government anything. We’re financially self-sustaining, generating our own revenue to fund operations — a model that arguably deserves wider application across federal agencies.

#2 #3 are questionable at so many levels. Do you really think that Trump has your best interests in mind? Tell us all how this is currently being done?
Where is the mass fraud? Have you really looked at the national debt?
It's only increasing under the current situation.
U.S. hits $38 trillion in debt, after the fastest accumulation of $1 trillion outside of the pandemic | PBS News U.S. hits $38 trillion in debt, after the fastest accumulation of $1 trillion outside of the pandemic - https://share.google/jj5XGerCnYNTgO7mQ

Take it or leave it for the source but there's no silver lining for the common man atm

Let’s keep this thread focused on the opportunity itself — not politics. This is about an open Tree Worker position at one of the most beautiful national park sites in the country.
There’s a reason most of our crew has been with the Trust for over 20 years. The pay is unmatched, the equipment budget is incredible, and the tools and gear are top-of-the-line.
For the right person, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
