Today I took my 23GT on what I thought would be it's 2nd job. Wrong. I couldn't get it where I wanted. The area was wide enough, but a couple of trees were preventing it from making a turn. I ended up taking it home (4 blocks away, lucky for me) and picking up the 15GT instead. The 15GT, 5 ft. shorter, just made the turn and had just enough reach and height to do the job. My wife wants me to keep the little guy, I was going to sell it, but now having 2nd thoughts. The 15GT is fully paid for so it is not costing me much money to keep it and if I did sell it I would only put that money in savings.

Anyway, here is some pictures of today's job.

Wesley, does your 15GT have the Honda engine?

Yes. It will use about 4 gals of gas to run hard all day.
I ran the 23GT hard all day Monday and it used about the same amount,
4 gal running a 20hp engine.

I bought the 23GT primarily to do palm trees, which I don't mind trimming, but I really, really hate climbing. Here are some pictures of a job we did today. My 15GT can only reach 2 of the palms in the back yard. The 23GT was able to reach all of them. I was able to get 12 palms from 2 spots.

amy problems with the lift on the edges of that walkway? I get worried about carcking them....tight fit and nice set up

I lay a 2x4 along the edge, on the grass, in sections where the sidewalk is higher than the grass and then plywood on top of that whenever I am going over the edge. If I can keep both tracks at least an inch from the very edge, no problem with cracking.

I think that photo set shows how the spider can be so much more useful than a bucket truck, but I dont use either so my opinion doesnt really mean squat. :)

Is using the spider faster than a climber? I guess it might depend on how spread out the palms are?

It is way faster than a climber, if the climber is me.

I was able to trim 6 cocos, from one spot, ranging in height between 60-70 ft. 45 min. taking my time, enjoying the view and taking drinks from my ice chest which I carry in the bucket. In my old age, I would have taken over an hour climbing. Even if I got pulled from tree to tree on a rope, that would still entail a 20 to 30 ft. climb up each one. I do know 2 climbers that could have climbed and trimmed those 6 trees in the same amount of time it took me with the lift, but I pay them $300 a day. They cannot keep up that pace all day. by the end of the day, I wasn't even tired.

Here are a couple pictures of Kahala beach at low tide and a aerial view of the
property from 75 ft. and another one from the ground. The coconut palms you see right below the bucket are the ones in my avatar. Where the elbow on the boom is on the last picture, is 49 ft. off the ground.

Started trimming coconut palms at the Hilton this week. I need a 85 ft. lift. I thought I would be able to reach all of the cocos in the pool area, but there are at least 10 of the 57 in this section I will have to climb a little because even when I got the 23GT right under the palm, it was anywhere from 2 to 7 ft. too short.:(
