Exactly. Carl is young, smart and strong. He's on his way to a very successful life. But Butch has a 30 year advantage, and he's worked as a bouncer. He knows how to manhandle people who don't wish to be manhandled. And like Deva said, he knows how to play dirty when neccessary.
