Hissing Diesel Engine

Fiberglass insulation shouldn't burn. If the engine is cold, many things would work, even just a folded up piece of cotton, perhaps.

Just be ready for a mess if the exhaust bolt/studs break.....right Chris?

Those aren't too bad usually. Once that thing is off it is wise to take a grinder and face off the manifold so the new gasket will seal. Often times the old gasket combined with carbon become "one" with the manifold. I have seen people just slap gaskets on and still have a leak.

You can usually tell if you are through the old gasket because the grinder will make sparks, no sparks=carbon/gasket.

I've been warned that this may be the case. We're spraying all nearby bolts with liquid wrench daily so it gets to soak for a WEEK prior to working on it. Fingers crossed.

Pblaster may be better...I have used it a lot in past:

Zep had a good penetrating oil. I usually look at what's on the shelf and pick the most expensive one, from an honest distributor of course.
