Nature is brutally efficient at getting rid of dead bodies. A dead cat would be gone without a trace in a week or two.

That's 'cause the buzzards scavenge them all.

;)

Agree. I honestly don't know what happens to them all, but unless they were pinned somehow or in a really good crotch, I think they would just eventually fall down and be dinner for any number of other critters. I know of two other climbers that had to deal with owls during a rescue, and personally have had one of those experiences during a night rescue.

Had one in Feb where the owner was on his front porch and actually saw two coyotes chasing his cat up a tree 20' away. The cat knew how to climb, cuz I had just rescued it two months prior. It's now in the same tree again, but I told them yesterday to give it a few days. We'll see.

I've found a dead possum in a tree, twice. Like long time dead, leather and bones.
How does a possum die in a tree? Old age?

I don't know if it has anything to do with their death, but possums are known for their very poor hygiene, one of the dirtiest of mammals.
