Cottonwood is one foul smelling tree

As Al said, its good for trim and moulding, I just finished trimming out a bedroom with it. A local mill used to sell Cottonwood paneling, pretty stuff.

It has it's uses just like any other tree .It doesn't warp badly like some nor do the ends split badly as a rule .
While it's not strong like oak as it dries it gets lighter ,oak really doesn't loose a lot of weight .

Fact is when Tom takes a decent one down we're going to cut some outrigger pads out of the stuff so they don't get hernias from dragging those heavy azzed oak things around .Couple straight 12-14 " logs should do it .

I don't like chainsaw milling but in an hour or two it could be done using the Grandville mini mill and one of either mine or Toms larger saws .

I think there is a difference in species .The local cottonwoods are eastern black cottonwood which is considered as a hardwood .
