Cicada damage

Had a tree full of cicadas at home yesterday....near the camera. Was curious to see what the damage looks like from these buggers. Lots of branches are dying at the ends.

Here's one depositing her eggs, and another of the damage itself.

I was out tilling the garden last night, they kept landing on me. Had one grab hold of my nose!!! Nice that they don't bite.
 
Mostly twig end damage, nothing too bad. if the tree is small and the population large they MAY defoliate the tree. Not too much to worry about.

Bob childs gave an awesome talk about these, at one of the Mass. Arborists Association dinner meetings this spring.
