Chuck n Duck Dust Problem

I just aquired a Asplundh JEY chipper. Is the dust that circulates in front of the drum normal. I cannot operate without a full face mask! I am cutting dead pine- ie beetle kilL
Any ideas?

A good dust mask with cartridges and vents. ~$30 at Home Depot. Useful for London Planetree's trichomes.

A blower left to idle or reved up. I got my blower settled in the right spot for hot, dusty, dirty stump cuts recently. A nice addition for better breathing.

Sharp blades and proper anvil/ blade offset, too.
