Thats pretty much what i always did.
Take a look at Mark C's laynerd.
Big ole monkey fist style coil.
I get meat hooked , for using such a long laynerd but, wow it really useful.
There are so many ways to carry the entire line aloft.
Invent us a new one.

I keep a back up/spare climbing line and rigging line in backpacks and use them often in a variety of situations.
