I’m taking out beetle kills in this cabin community. Might it be beneficial to leave some as habitat for woodpeckers that feed on borers?

Reduce hazard limbs but leave room for holes? Drill holes?

Ideally these habitat trees would be ones that have been dead a season or two and their crop of borers has already passed on.

Thoughts? Thanks

My question is: is habitat needed? Habitat for what? Will the habitat trees be beneficial to the rest of the trees in the area?
I o no

The one I took down already had a bunch of pecker tracks in it

There are a lot of acorn woodpeckers there, I don’t know if they are also boreriverous

Generally, as a rule, beetle kill type trees not prime for habitat near uninfected trees. Best practice is a scorched earth approach. Less tree left = less pest left.
