    Nice trick, Yoda....done it now and then, but sometimes you need several feet of length, so I've used the end of my lanyard, or lifeline, or even a separate length of line. Just gotta make sure it's plenty long, so as not to come tight during the rigging operation...works well for speed lining..

    Nah, they were black cottonwood, I'm quite sure...just simple ones with no huge branches and complex branch structure but more single straight stemmed all the way up. Routine, compared to a typical big cottonwood. How large was the $20k sequoia you guys did? You've prolly seen my images...

    Nice work, Reg! I assume that was a black cottonwood, populus macrocarpa, right? I should try to hustle up a big one here... but I doubt the HO will go for the price. I told him, a few years back, it would be about $20k..... 160 footer, 5 foot on the butt, with an understory. Requires close...
