I just reply to the individual. Is there something wrong with that?

Butch wasn't a fan of people using the reply function in threads... I'm sure he had his reasons, but in general, IMO, I think it's better to use them than to not. On other forums, it's customary to use the reply function even if it's just the last post in the thread. Aside from making it...

Wedging over a dutchman, cutting a hinge too thin for the load, a twisted fiber path in the trunk (the worse it gets with the high of the stump shot or gap), old internalized limb, are other good ways to loose a tree.

I meant to post these pictures as well: Definitely a learning curve for me as I've never done board things (skate board, snow board, wake board)... but nothing crazy to get a basic competency conveying myself in public. There are people who can do gymnastics on them, I'm decidedly not...

Sounds like my idea of trimming the bark and gap faces is good practice. Cutting live oak bark is like getting blasted with coarse sand anyway. 😆

Hot one today. Some pruning, some take down and a lot of cleaning in a fancy property.

That is sweet the way it is usable, saves a vehicle and driver. Was there a learning curve to riding it? Imo PPE for sure. I'd probably go with gloves as well as helmet and kneepads probably wouldn't be a bad idea. Er, um, how'd I not know or forget you have a grapple truck? Have you ever...

The tree itself. I have pulled trees out of the ground after they have been faced up and back cut, I’ve had the top break out while pulling, I’ve had trees break the hinge due to unforeseen rot, and a tree has barberchaired on me. These are some of the things that will get you if you are not...

I’ve had this tab open since Tuesday on my phone, was going to make a longer video but haven’t made the time. Monday I put 3-4 miles on it driving from my house to the barn, then between the two jobs we did Monday. It was handy being able to leave the guys working and be able to move the MRT...

Momentum/ speed helps poor hinges. Pull hard and fast enough and the tree goes where you pull it. We weakened and ripped down a horrible maple against the lean with a small skidder's skookum winch. No hinge. Too rotten.

Touch it once! Questions for learning, not arguing. If all your rigging, cutting, and weight estimation is correct, what gets you? Bad wood you can’t see? It seems like to lose one over backwards or sideways you’d have to cut your hinge off or it fail. On that note, I did cut a hinge off...
