The Sports Car Thread

Thought I'd start a thread about sports cars, since it seems a few of us on here have one or are big enthusiasts of them. Thought a thread where we could take about them, show off your rides, modifications, etc, would be fun to have. I'll start things off with my 2008 VW GTi MkV, sporty little hatchback. Comes stock with a 2.0 TSI, pumping out 200hp and 206 ft/lb of torque. I recently got the APR Stage I ECU chip in it, and that bumped it up to 254hp and 297 ft/lb of torque, along with increasing the responsiveness of it overall. I love it so far. A short shifter is next on the list, along with a Carbonio Cold Air Intake system. Would like to put a new exhaust on it as well, and get the Stage II reflash on the chip(this requires a new exhaust system, but the reflash is free), along with some new wheels and tires. After all that it should put me around 300hp and 360 ft/lb of torque, possibly more, can't find any exact numbers right now.

If I really wanted to bump it up, I could drop $5k on the stage III turbo kit, and get around 405hp and 403 ft/lb of torque, which would be crazy I think for something who's stock numbers are half of that. Maybe one day I'll get that added on, lot of saving up to do for that tho haha.

I have restored a 57 MGA. 62 Volvo P1800, and 69 Sunbeam Tiger. The Tiger had a small block Ford V8. My favorite was the Volvo, wish I still had it. It had an electric overdrive. The only one I have digital pictures of is the 57 MGA, thanks to the second owner after I had it, who tracked me down and sent pictures of when he first got it, and then as he was doing a ground up restoration.

Bought my Mustang Bullitt in May of 2011. By July I had a Roush M90 supercharger on it and it's just gotten worse from there. I think hookers and blow would probably be cheaper. I can't possibly think of all the mods I've done but a few of them include a tubular K frame, MGW shifter, DSS aluminum driveshaft, Rear upper and lower control arms, upgraded rear differential with Eaton Truetrac and girdle cover, 62mm polished and ported throttle body, Koni adjustable shocks and struts, appearance and comfort upgrades, etc. I need to get it back on a dyno but I believe I'm around 430hp at the wheels.

Adrian, don't be worried about doubling the stock numbers, that's where things start to get fun. My '99 Dodge/Cummins was 235/460 stock, but is now 500/1200, or 420/950 to the ground.

Awesome Skwerl! Love your Mustang, I really wanted to get the Boss 302 when they released it last year, that was one nice looking car, if only I had the money haha. A mustang or camero is what I'd like to have someday though. And yeah, this stuff gets crazy expensive, I had no idea how expensive it'd really be until I started upgrading the GTi. I love it though, enjoy learning about the mechanics behind it all as well, trying to get the hang of some of it so I can do some of the mods myself.

And yea Dave, I'm not too worried about it, its just crazy to think what 400hp would feel like in the little GTi. Think it'll be a good while before I can afford the new Turbo to do that though.

I don't own anymore sports cars but i do own a sport suv. A 2006 Jeep SRT8. Its a beast, 430hp and AWD. It is a blast to drive. Never thought I would own a jeep until I drove one of these.

So far the only "sports car" mentioned that is really worth talking about is the Tiger...awesome machine to pilot, as I well recall.

Thanks for that Stig. My experience was very much Like Jay's. I must have the year model wrong, but mine was british racing green when I got it for $4500, with a 260 Ford V8. I jacked the rear end up slightly and repainted it, made a custom stainless steel cover for the air filter. It was hot in every sense. The best time to drive was with the top down in the cool of the night. Cruising on a mountain road was great fun. I used to drive it like a two speed, starting in second and going straight to fourth. I let my wife (then girlfriend) and her girlfriend take it joy riding for a day. They got way too much attention, so I had to take it back. A friend lost control and drove it into a wheat field once, fortunately with little or no damage. It was fun to punch it ,if your passenger was talking too much, and listen to the funny noises they would start to make, or the way they would grip the bucket seat. I sold it before I could kill myself.
