The hinge looks terrible. Why so much bypass? It looks even but here we call that a dutchmen it breaks the fibers of the hinge early and when uneven can cause erratic changes to the direction of fall.

There was just other stuff going on, and me using a chainsaw woulda made it hard for the others to communicate.
Same site today. Pretty tall trees besides the house. I set the camera on timelapse-3 seconds, so you are relying on luck to capture something worth while. Ziplined much of the logs out until we got too low, then lowered the remainder. The lowering part was awkward because the logs ended up all jammed in the stone walkways down below. Coundnt drop any of it because of the risk of the logs bouncing. all kinds of stupid shrubs, sprinklers.....and the house of course.

Very nice pics Reg, I guess speed lining the logs is actually less nerve racking than snatching them down on the trunk itself, at least they're moving away from you.
How do you tension the line enough? Hand winch?

Wish I had a good camera up with me today on level plane with a coopers hawk nest and momma watching me intently from about 25 feet away. A nice pleasure.

He just tightens by hand, takes a wrap around a tree. For logs, you dont need to be super tight because they're short so more likely to hit the landing. They move fast though, high impact. Takes but a few seconds to take a wrap....and no time at all for me to sling and cut them.
The ones that we lowered Sean ? clove hitch. Its the fastest knot I can tie for that purpose. Dont think it cinches quite as well as some others but if you tie it just below the middle of the log it should be fine. At least, Ive never had a problem. Like I said, its quick when you practice.
Edit: Im not putting a face in those logs either. Just snap cuts.

Anyway here's what I've taken to using instead of an RB, they're steel and make life a lot easier, the fixed eye makes the undoing/doing up a doddle even with gloves.plus put a half hitch in front and you're ok for weight, another advantage is you can throw it through a fork and retrieve it easier. And only 12 quid if I remember
