The Official Work Pictures Thread

Haha. I love wood jokes. Big wood jokes. I loved messing with the dump girls.

Dump girl, "What have you got today?"

The rude and crude squisher, "Big wood, where would you like it!"

Terrible I know. I kill myself.

Then there's the time I showed up with the crane deck loaded with big willow chunks and a huge piece on my three ton deck too.

The dump girl exclaimed, "that settles it, you've got the biggest wood in town".

Ahhh it took awhile for her to live that one down.

Yes ma'am, I knew that but I still like to hear you say so.

So, just doing bids today. Guys are pruning sycamores.
Went out and rural area to look at one tree to fall, no cleanup, referral work. Actually the neighbor of the guy where I shot the bed slide video.
Tall pine in the center there.
He said he was cutting the Madrone down later so not to worry about it, which is good because there was a big limb sticking into the lay.
He kind of wanted to not wreck these little trees on the left though.

Pretty significant lean for such a fancy target under it.

That lean stayed prominent clear near the top and then did a Phototropic hook back and towards the South (those mountains in the distance).

Tree had a bit of a funk on the house side which didn't bother me much.

Told him I would do it right now for $250. I wanted some fun. It was just butterfly enough to be fun. He asked his wife. His wife was cool. He moved his fifth wheel and truck while I got set up.
Used throw line to set a line for the purposes of relieving the hinge wood a bit so that it could work better.
Didn't have any burley gear with me but it was adequate for what I wanted.

Made shallow face, taller on swing side and a bit above the funk.

Plunged it leaving hinge thick, but not dangerous thick, on opposite side.

Cut it out to the back, tree talking a bit and creeping but holding for most part...
Started feathering the hinge and moving it into the lay… no picture of that as the homeowner camera woman failed me there.
Swung tree well into the desired hole and by the point of this picture was cutting meat on the opposite side as fast as I could, with a chain that I wished was more wicked. Thought it might happen that way but liked my plan anyway. Still do.

Broke Madrone limb as planned but managed to not overly injure those little dogwoods on the left. If razor sharp kick ass chain, then less damage to dogwood and maybe even miraculous saving of Madrone limb which didn't matter, or perhaps not taking pressure off the holding wood side with the guy line may have allowed for more early tearing and a more perfect shot.
Still, I like insurance precaution moves sometimes.

Then he pointed at this other hard leaning tree that leaned into the woods but only problem was putting it down without hanging it up.

$50 I said, unless I hang it up and then the price goes up.
Told him I would put it right next to the stump of the bigger pine there (which you can't see yet)
He likes this little dogwood and had hopes for it, but to go to the right of it would be to hang the tree up and to go to the left of it was going to be exciting for the little Dogwood but the only real shot.

Shallow face, and then punched it…

67a642d00acf65ecadd02c0f3cd92109.jpg

Hard to tell by the pictures as usual, but really needed to do it this way not only because of such a lean but so that it fell suddenly because it needed to push through some limbs of the tree I was putting it next to that were right up there with it already (if that makes sense)
Cut out to the back strap guitar string tight and ting ping pinging. Whipped it out and tapped it.

Yay, saved little Dogwood…

About eight cuts and $300 richer.
And back off to bids.

Haha, great pics/story! Cool post.

Your saw teeth look nothing like mine, btw:P

No chaps? That musta felt sketchy since afaik, you usually wear saw pro.

Yes I gave my chaps to my young apprentice and didn't have any with me. Wouldn't share it at all if it weren't for the home sweet home Treehouse.

I don't feel very sketchy without chaps although I do like wearing them. I need to get another pair for those days I'm not wearing chainsaw pants. Bid day today.

Since I started wearing chaps last fall, I keep a spare pair in my pickup for just such occasions, or when cutting firewood in my buddys yard on way home.

Great shots and pinpoint accuracy August. Very calculated, I like it. I think you got your money's worth out of that chain!
I told Cory I'd trade his big beech tree for a half dozen sappy pines, well I guess I called it on myself. Worked out the sappiest pine removal I've ever had. Several limbs on one side had been sheared off by a tornado about three weeks ago and had been pouring sap ever since. From ground to top, one side was completely covered, and of course, by the time I was done, so was I and all my gear. I had my wife bring out a tub of GoJo and some rags or I would've been dead in the water after that one tree. One conciliation was the view and a nice breeze off the Gulf. The guy with the sappy tree is a fabulous carver, painter, sculptor and the best taxidermist I've ever known. Here's a couple of his carvings on stumps from previous removals.

Great pics!

Small ash removal, dying canopy, overhanging a house, fence, driveway and garage. 4 hours, ground help was a bit slow with the rigging ropes.

Love having a saw in the truck on those bids!
I'm the same with chaps, worked without them for so many years it's no big deal. I know that's not the best mentality but I mostly wear them to be a good example to my crew.

You brought it on yourself Ray. Great view though

Slow ground help is frustrating Peter. As long as you got it done in a reasonable time with no damage though you did good in my book. Is the ash borer affecting the trees around you as well. I bet half my residential removals are ash
